Anasty rattle but only at these revs,car drives fine otherwise.
Sounds as though as its intercooler.

Car is still running but was rattly earlier on start up,and oil pressure is droppin

That sounds a lot Fuzz, better off seeing APi Engines then for a checked "new" engine for around £1000, depending on year and model?

M18use - check header heat shields for rattles ( they rot and rattle ) and also TMIC ( if you changed it for larger one particularly ) in case ratling on bulkhead / wiring or pipes between TMIC or bulkhead.
As oil pressure seems to be dropping, does look more major though... sorry

 

Car will be broke then it owes me about 20k now and cant spend anymore on itIts only worth 12k anyway so why bother with it,sad but true

Well I have just started a new job, all my tools are there, Simons car is in my old workshop waiting to be finished/ waiting for bits from the states. (hardly any tools at home now) and my new workshop I have not finished building yet (but by the sounds of it the family is going to "pay me off" for what I have done to it so far and take it off me.

So first I have to build up a set of tools
then I have to build snowys car
then I have to build my workshop....

2010 sound OK

Whoops, forgot the sensible reply ... isn't an engine in and out quite quick, a half day, or maybe a weekend for a novice?
Unless you mean strip engine and rebuild with new bits (bearings, rings, maybe rods and pistons, rebuild heads etc. ! ) , refit heads etc. then yes, more tricky, but I was referring to an API engine, ex japan, with a warranty, or even their premier fettled engine ( about what, £1500 ? ) which would only require fitting and manifolds and ancillaries?
What's he labour for engine out and in? £200 - £300 ??

What's the story with your workshop, tools etc. Andy? So you are now at Powerstation .. so you may see me soon when I come back down for a 4 wheel alignment, and maybe eibachs!

Jees, long story.. I'll try and run through it quickly as I want to get to bed now...

Old workshop kept getting filled with grain/ beans fertilizer.. you name it.
I was fed up of shipping out my gear back down to my house and trying to work in a single garage....
Asked the old man for a "place of my own"
had a shed pointed out to me that needed rebuilding anyway as it was rotten.
Stripped, made, welded a new structure for it, insulated it and sheeted it ( the roof)
got the doors made and one wall up...
Time moved on to the point where Snowy (engine fubar'd owner) was waiting too long for my services ( I had already taken the job on, thinking the shed build would be a doddle )
It was to be the first job in the new workshop...
Snowys car then then drags out as well, as bits that come off that, we were expecting to go on the new engine, were also fubar.
Old man now getting impatient about stalled workshop build and has threatened to just pay me off what I have done to it and rent it out to someone else...
He was laying blocks for the other wall today as it happens, nothing else has been said on the matter.
Work went quiet, I put the feelers out for a new job, something other than welding.
Tim W suggested I ask PS for a job (both of us knew they were moving to bigger premises and looking for an experienced mech I think).
Couldn't have done any harm to ask, thinking they wouldn't want the likes of me....
Well it feels like they jumped at the chance..
I am now there full time as of 9am this morning... and so are most (all of my decent) tools..

Phew.....!

I`VE been wondering this for a while but could not explain it lol thats why i have not put post up on here asking what the hell the rattle is when i lift offf the loud peddle, i know this might sound daft and excuse me for being a little thick lol but where are the heat shields for the headers i.e is it under the enigine side the engine, what? BTW what is TMIC??

Heat sheild - just on top of turbo

The verdicy is ,its wrecked bottom end gone and done the top end aswell Oh well it could be worse

Mouse, i believe subaru still do a full warrantied, short block/long block, with the old one in exchange, it just depends on your chasis number as to wether they have one.

 

I had a word with Rich at work and he says he can do it much cheaper...
A figure of £800 quid was mentioned but whether that was plus vat, just a short block or what I don't know..
Then the conversation meandered off on to something else.
so that's all I know.

There are a number of heat shields that cover the exhaust manifolds / headers, which due to the heat and proximity to water ( in our weather! and being under the car ) tend to rot and the bolts / the bits that bolt together rot, so the exhaust header or up-pipe heat shields ratle. Can use steel tie wraps, replace bolts/weld new lugs on, replace 'em with (expensive ) new ones or revove and wrap with thermal lagging.

These headers come out of each side of the engine, meet behind the driver side wheel and go up to the turbo.

Ohh yeah, there is a heat shield on Turbo too!
