Default TD04 to VF24/28/29 swap - Post your figures here......

If you have swapped from a TD04 to an IHI VF24/28 or 29 can you post your BHP, Torque, Spec, Peak and held boost pressure and also if and where you got it remapped.

I have just plonked a VF28 on my UK00 and am planning my next move w.r.t. mapping.

My current spec :

Impreza Turbo UK MY00
ECUTEK ECU (Setup for TD04)
VF28 (currently controlled with a MBC)
H&S Downpipe
H&S Centre
TSL GRP 'N' Backbox
Standard Fuel Pump/Reg
Standard 440cc Injectors
AFR Gauge
Knocklink

Currently boosting to 1.15bar

BHP : TBD
Torque : TBD

Nice one Andy.. at least somones owned up to doing it...

Come on guy's I know there's a few more of you out there, the right side of 300BHP.
Lets show these TD05 boy's running 300(ish), that you don't need to suffer the lag to get 300BHP+

I'm probably going to go for a TEK remap now, as I am already TEK'd so it will just need a tweak on the boost control and a fiddle with the fuel/timing.

A good boost controller is gonna cost me near the same money anyway I expect....

VF28 will make similar power to a TD05, similar lag too though !
It's really just reliability that the TD05 scores on

Point taken w.r.t reliability.
But having had both a TD05 on a WRX and ealry UK, driven a TD05 in a mates well mapped 99UK. I think the VF28, well at least mine, seems pretty good and not alot laggier (is that a real word ?) to the TD04.

I have used the right banjo bolts for the oil feed though

If you PM Ianw (one of the moderators) I am sure he made 322 bhp running a VF 28 on his MY00 uk spec scooby

AP

My car is still running the stock 380cc injectors and when the wideband was checked it actually ran a tad rich at the redline on 1.2 bar of boost, apart from that all was fine

Harvey made over 350 on a VF28 on his Sti. It's a very capable turbo, best of the VF bunch in my opinion

The lag can vary from car to car. Typically a TD05 will see 1 bar anywhere from 2700 to 3200 depending on the set up. VF28 may improve by 100rpm on that but you really would need to datalog it to notice it in my opinion.

VF35 waiting to go on my MY99 with 3 port, Tek3, full decat. Before it goes on i shall be adding an STi8 i/c and a more beefy fuel pump. The Tek will be tweaked to suit. I'm hoping for a solid 300

Andy,

Where would you expect a TD05 and a VF28 to achieve 1 bar in 4th gear ?
I havn't had a play yet, just gong on gut feel (literally), as am of work with the family. But the TD04 seemed to improve by about 200rpm per gear i.e between 3rd/4th/5th.
I can't remember at what rpm but it was around the 2,600rpm mark for 3rd/4th.

Brun,

I've not done the fuel pump, as I am inclined to think and also have been advised that it is not strictly required if aiming for under 320BHP.
Alot of the fuel pump thing is 'jumping on the mod band-wagon', which probably 8 out of 10 cars don't require for the levels of power being achieved.

I'm just being cautious with the pump thing. Mine's done 77k so i just want to know that the pump that's in place is up to the job. I would put a brand new std one in but for the sake of a few extra pennies i might as well have an uprated one incase i decide to push the power up some more in the future

AFAIK you can run 1.35 mid range then dropping to 1.2/1.25 at 7,000rpm according to Bob.
i think thats what Burr is running give or take a bit....

Peaks at 1.4 - 1.5 then tails off to about 1.2 - 1.3 as the revs increase.
