Fitting a lambda sensor to a non-catted car?

Can someone give me some pointers on how to install a lambda sensor in a non catted car?
The car is a 1990 Sierra Cosworth 4x4 and in order to fit an AFR meter, it obviously requires a lambda sensor.
A lambda boss and plug can be obtained for the car easily enough and welded into the downpipe which the lambda is then installed in, but this is where I get stumped.
How/where are the heater/signal wires connected in order to have the sensor functioning for th ebenefit of the AFR?

If you get a 3 wire sensor ( as fitted to Classic Imprezas), then...
1 wire is heater 12v
1 wire is ground
1 wire is 0-1V signal...This is the wire to connect to a narrowband AFR meter
