Default MOT de-cat advice

Hi guys, I have a 92/93 WRX import. Got the car MOT'd yesterday in which it failed due to emmissions. I was informed that due to it being a pre 94 import I would have no problems but now I am being told this is not the case. Does anyone know for sure where I stand?

Many thanks.

1st August 1992 must have a Cat fitted. Son in Law is an MOT tester.

Sorry Butty. There may be special cases for a one off car etc but EU law buggered us up.
