Unhappy head gasket leaking

Just been told that the head gasket on my scoob (my96) is leaking oil. big money to put right apparently. what i want to know is if the engne is out how far do you go with what you replace, it has been suggested that whilst doing the gasket the valves should be done, rings should be done, etc etc. The car has done just over 100k and is still running perfectly even with the head gasket leaking. what would you do???

Full gasket set including the head gaskets are bolt back together. Don't see why they valves and rings should be done?

Only thing needed is probably to skim the heads.

A clutch is always a good idea whilst the engine is out though.

Are you sure it's The head gasket, and not just the rocker cover one??
