No, stock P1 bb is the same as a STI 5 one, has STI stamped on the it and is very quiet. PPP is similar to the P1 upgrade bb, but has P1 stamped on the tail pipe instead of Prodrive.

I believe the P1 backbox, though it looks the same as the PPP, is slightly different inside to accommodate the P1 engine's higher output. More power = more exhaust gas.

You may be correct Andy, I don't know the differences between the two. Both the Prodrive bb are stainless steel which the stock P1 isn't.

Thanks for the replys and sorry for the confussion.

I thought the standard P1 box was stainless, since found out otherwise.

My point is:

Is the Prodrive box with P1 on the tail pipe, the same as the PPP box.

All aftermarket exhaust seem to be the same, depending on year of car.

Cant see why prodrive would be any different.

Struggling to find a PPP box for my car, think the P1 box would be a option.

The P1 box has slightly larger internals and would be noisier than a normal PPP silencer

when i had the p1 and got the p1 bb put on it was very nice, how come the p1 came with an sti bb as standard rather than a proper p1 bb you had to pay extra for on a £31,000 car?

Martin

A small problem known as 'Homologation'

Fitting it would have meant a whole new noise and emissions type approval test. That would have taken time and obviously cost more money. As the car was built with the STi silencer and that would have to be removed to fit another, there would have been a cost implication there as well.

So if you'd wanted to wait another few months for the car and paid more than the cost of the silencer extra, we could have fitted it as std..... The same applies to the brakes as well although that would have taken even more time and cost a lot more money.
