After spending £700 on a reconditioned gearbox for my RB5, and being told that the gearboxes are simply not upto the job. I was wondering if anyone knew how robust the gearboxes are on later imprezas? Are the newer models any stronger? Have I been told correct about the weakness of the gearbox in my model (99)?

 

No the later gearbox's (98-00) are the stronger box. I have just upgraded from the earlier box and believe me they are weak as anything. The only other option you have is the sti 6 speed from the newer sti's but they are like about £3k fitted.
