Can the crank pulley be removed from the engine, with the engine in situ etc..???
Trying to fit a set of pulleys, and even with the car in gear, wheels blocked up, and someone holding the brakes on, I cant undo the nut holding the pulley on!!
Is it a reversed thread etc, or is there a way of holding the engine by way of pinning the flywheel etc without too much dismantling??

the thread is not reversed.. you need a bigger wrench!! I used a nice long torque wrench.
I put the car is 5th and handbrake on and it came undone with a lot of pressure.
The crank pulley on mine then need a puller to get off the end of the crank though btw!

I am using a torque wrench on it at the mo, but just end up turning the engine over til I run out of movement (ie the wrench goes from the battery, across to the abs module!) and of course, as I let it go, the engine turns back over to where I started!!
I need to hold it where it is, so I can get another go at it with the wrench.

Right, me being a numptie, thought using a low gear would have been better, so tried 5th gear, Bang straight away it came undone!!
Thanks guys, sorry to waste your time on something so simple

I might be back soon though to ask Simon how he got his pulley off the shaft
sure it will be OK though, my car's not as old as the hills like his

You ba5tard!

Simon..
pitty your poor torque wrench!
goto halfrauds or similar and get a decent breaker bar (professional range one is only about £12). they are dead handy for undoing wheel bolts etc and can take the strain of additional leverage. and being helfords pro if it breaks take it back

I disagree it puts any undue stress on the torque wrench.. if it is one of the old one that relies on the shaft bending to display the torque then yes it will damage the calibration etc.. but I am sure Pickle hasn't got one of those old monsters? even I have a modern one. lol
On mine the torque is reached and the shaft contacts and puts all pressure directly onto the end of the wrench (where the socket goes on) therefore the only stress put on the torque calibrated mechinism is the torque it is set to at the time.. imho.

Ha, pinched the Torque wrench from work last night so I don't care if I f*** it
All done now, no dramas with getting the pulley from the shaft
Thanks guys, what I thought was going to be a nightmare, turned into a simple 1hr max job! (Only hope I've tensioned the belts up correct!)

I am still waiting for the belt cover/battery cover etc to come back after I got SPEC-R to re-polish them up, so will pick them up in a bit, then will take a couple of pics to post up.

Steven, its only the heatwrap insulation that I got from www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk bought it as a sheet large enough, then wrapped it round the pipework, and secured with sticky velcro! I couldn't get anything that was 3" or larger diammeter.
