Question Rear Fog Light

What's the reason for Jap imports not having a rear fog light ?

Is just that it's not a legal requirement or do they not have fog.

In which case the front lights would be classed as driving lights
and not fog lights

Simple - there is no legal requirement for Japanese cars to have rear foglights (unlike the UK where there is), thus they are not made with rear foglights. Hence why you often see on Jap imports that the place where the fog light would be in symetrical light clusters is taken up with the rear light or brake light - often having two lights per side instead of one.

Thus Jap imports need to have a rear fog light installed to meet UK regulations and the cheapest way is to fit a small aftermarket one somewhere - never looks that good though...

The cars we get here are all Jap imports (but the WRX's are de-tuned to 219bhp to evade a horrendous 220bhp+ tax) and we get no rear fog lights. I always thought it was because we simply don't get fog here, but the legal requirement things also makes sense.

Our cars also come without heaters.

So if you don't get fog, that would make the front lights, driving lights.

In which case it would not be illegal to drive with them on when there is no fog.

The front bumper mounted lights on a JDM Scooby are fog lights. Just because JDM cars dont have to have a rear foglight doesnt alter what the front foglights are. Btw; a lot of Japanese cars do have a rear foglight; although they dont have to...

Consider this; in the UK cars dont have to have front fog lights; so does this mean that the high intensity rear red lamps cant be fog lights/must be driving lights? ...making it alright to drive around with them on all of the time.....
