Welcome aboard

The short answer to your question is: "yes, they are generally very reliable" Subaru enjoys a good deal of sucess in customer satisfaction surveys, particularly JD power.

However, there are some important provisos:

1) They must be looked after meticulously and the services aren't cheap! Fail to do this and expect big and very expensive problems.

2) You have to run them with mechanical sympathy; they ned to be warmed up and cooled down properly. Failure to do this results in expensive problems.

3) Research any mods you might wish to make to the car very carefully unless you want an expensive bill or three!

4) Figure on running on optimax or -at the very least- super unleaded.

If you adhere to the above you should have no problems. Bare in mind that forums tend be characterised by a negative bias: people won't check in every day to tell you that their scooby is fine. They will, however, most certainly put a post up if their engine goes bang!

Happy shopping!
