Angry What's had a hole smashed/blew in it?

Hello gents,

Can y'all have a look at the photos below and tell me what's gone pop. I was pootling along at about 70ish on the motoway, put my foot down in 5th, car hesitated a bit and bang tried to limp off motor way and oil light came on and engine died. Car is a UK Turbo, was rebuilt 10k ago with high comp pistons and GEMS about 300bhp

Hole is under front edge of intercooler is it the gearbox or engine?

Cheers

Car for sale as is, ideal project for someone see here...

I can see a conrod, that's very bad.

Your engine is fubar, sorry.

Don't try and start it.

To add, it's a hole in your block, and you likely have a snapped rod, probably caused by a failed big end that seized.

Your pistons may have survived, but your going to need a new crank, rods and block at the very least. possibly a new piston or two, and possibly some new valves. Also new oil cooler matrix (old one may have metal debrid in it). SO it's full engine rebuild/replace time.

High comp. pistons? When you raise the boost you usually lower the comp. ratio if new pistons are fitted!

PS Yep! it's jiggered!

Sorry to hear about your problems. Some cars/drivers just have no luck whatsoever.

Out of interest, how much woold it cost for a 2nd-hand MY99/00 UK engine?

Used it once or twice just to test, I was told the anti-lag would shorten the life of the turbo but wouldn't harm the engine.

Cheers,

What effect does antilag have on the internals? Thought it would only have affected the turbo/inlet isde if things?

Anti lag has been known to knock the heads off exhaust valves, not to mention melting them

FPMSL!!!

Sorry to see another engine gone V!!!

Buy that £500 engine and sell the car as one you will get more money back than selling it with a blown engine.
