Question What year did subaru stop piston slap?

I've been away from a scooby for just over 2 years, having traded a '98 5 door turbo that was slapping even after a warrenty fix (slap returned a few months later), I'm missing the rush. What year did Subaru sort the engines out '99? or 2000? I'm considering buying a classic but would rather avoid a slapper (ooerr).

PS I have searched and it seems to be mainly '98 that have problems but does this also include late facelift 98s and/or early 99s... ta

MY99 phase II engine.
Slap is good if you push it hard and piston expand that space can save your engine

I think slaping Subaru engines never stop, many new age cars suffer but not so much as in the past!

It was the MY97/98's that suffered.
