Default Better gearbox oil??

Whats the best gearbox oil for protection and a bit of piece of mind? Reason i ask is that i think the grade thats in there isnt really up to the job. Im after something thicker, so do you guys have any suggestions?? and also where i can get some from

Also, any suggestions for uprated clutch fluid???

Cheers,
Neil

I've used Redline Lightweight Shockproof. In my six speed this has managed about 14000 miles with c.400 lbft. You can get it from Demon Tweeks and other suppliers. Not cheap, but it also improves shift quality over Syntrax IMHO.

thats what im after really, when on a longer journey i think the oil becomes quite thin as it heats up, so the gearchanges become a little more clunky. As its not running more torque then i feel its necessary to do something about it if i can.

Thanks John.

Five bottles, four isn't quite enough to get a really generous level in some boxes, depending on how much is spilled

Silkolene Syn 5 75w-90 or Motul 300 75w-90 are both ester based.

Redline shockproof, lightweight has given the best results here in OZ.

i am still swayed towardxs the redline stuff as it seems to be used in some fairly hardcore applications......menaing it should be more than enough for mine

So are the others, racing, rally, Le Mans etc the list is endless.

Compare prices before you buy as there is no difference in quality or performance.

These are all competition oils.

Oilman,

"there is no difference in quality or performance."

That is a bold and unreasonable statement!

Because, whether we are talking competition oils or not, there wouldn't be so many lengthy threads regarding all types of oil (engine and otherwise) if their quality and performance were the same.

Definately a big difrence in the leading gearbox oils. I have tried several different brands in my car and find the Redline Lightweight Shockproof to provide noticeable performance improvment others I have tried just dont offer. My car makes plenty of power and sees heaps of track time and the gearbox is surviving great. Much smoother shifts and less notchy than the other oils I have tried.

That's because it's ester based which is a superior lubricant just like Silkolene SYN 5 75w-90 or Motul Gear 300 75w-90. These are not your run of the mill gear oils, you'll always get what you pay for.

Cheers

value for money wise - Millers 75w90 Motorsport is a proper synthetic at a reasonable cost and will give a much improved shift quality..............if its a "brand" your after then we also supply/recomend the Motul 300v.............
