It could be the start of something BIG. It was in my case, at first not noticed, then more, then full scale evacuation of the coolant.....gaskets well gone.

The thing is, with the gases leaking from cylinder to the water jacket (but not in reverse) the head or liner face must be getting erroded over time.

I think you are heading (sorry) for head gasket replacement. Quite a time consuming job. If you are a Snet regular on Drivetrain, then you will know you have to call David at www.apiengines.co.uk and talk it through with him. Straight bloke, straight service, easy decision.
Tell him 911 sent you , but he might groan as he is mega busy!

Good luck,

911

Dan, we are in Harbury, Warwickshire, which is about 4 miles from junction 12 of the M40. I don't publish an address on here as not all vistors to S'net are honest and we can do without the hassle of nighttime visits.

Whats the cost for the gaskets doing assuming the heads not cracked e.t.c. need my uppipe doing to i think..!!

my email is dhorwich@hotmail.com Many thanks Dan
No secrets here, If the car comes to us complete; about £700 plus VAT as it's an engine out job. If you take out the engine and bring it, then about half that and a slight amount more for an upgrade to Ver 4 Steel head gaskets. I did post up on 911's other thread exactly what he paid for doing that job, including a pressure test of his heads to be certain, but I can't remember as I'm at home and the wine is taking over !!

Maybe he'll remember if he's online. The only thing to remember is that they won't get any better.

I know you're a distance away from us, but cars come from all over the Uk and parts of Europe for our services, you're quite local really.

Good luck whatever you do. David APi Engines / APi Impreza

Dan, to help you before David sinks into a well earned 'rest' tonight:

Api had my engine stripped of all ancillaries and out of the car delivered to them (I'm localish to them).
API stripped the heads off in double quick time so I could be rest assured that it was the gasket before I left (what kind of service is that!)
They stripped, cleaned, pressure tested, fitted new Sti v4 gaskets, fitted studs instead of the stretch-bolts and I collected it about 3 weeks or less after. Total was £670 I think. (Studs were about 150 + everything).

I would say you will have no probs cruising the car down to him in Warwickshire in it's condition, and then after blast it back home!

You won't go far wrong with API as many others will attest. Good coffee too.....

Im keeping an eye on it and you are def my first port of call for the repair just got to start saving, seen as the engine is out i think the clutch will need doing too plus the uppipe is split it think..!! so a few more things to do. No worries, we can handle all that

Do you do wheel alignment..? Yep sure do, laser and so-on the works, similar type of B/s free stuff and sensible cost too.

What sort of turn around time will i be looking at..?? Engine work is 7 - 10 daze [sic] at the moment, barring snags !

Many thanks for your honest reply something hard to come by from other dealers, i know the repair may go up over this price dependent on my problems but its still nice to hear a figure..

Dan
