Smile 502 bhp on a top mount ?

Yes, I was gutted until I realised this was the power at the wheels

Ok so that was with a little laughing gas

Actual results

---------------PAW -- PAF -- Torque

No N20--------416----466----419

With '50' shot--502----556----449

A few interesting points -

Most cars seemed approx 10% down on their 'normal' power and torque at flywheel.
For comparison purposes, T-uk made 300 (was 330@ Star) a TEK 3 decat 02 wrx made 250 and a std P1 made 240bhp

A 50 shot seems to be worth more than 50 !!

These rollers are so unstressed, even at this power the car just sat there solid and didn't even show a hint of slip. Need to get some of the 'big boys' up here for a run and comparison

Can't wait to try the N2O on the strip now

I was guessing what my car would do now at star andy. it was 340bhp on two different star days before the quieter back box went on. happy enough with my results today though when comparing them to others.

Need to get some of the 'big boys' up here for a run and comparison
sounds like a plan

well done for your result

Do you think I should swap out my quiet 2.5" backbox then

Excellent result Andy

Love seeing you build and run cars so quickly with so much 'side ways' thinking to the normal subaru 'rules'. It would have taken some guys three years of poundering to get that sort of result (and 5 times the cash outlay).... how long did this take

Well done.

Tony.

Thanks Tony, it took 2-3 months but I was on holiday in the middle of it so that delayed things

The pair of fans came from Pace as did the bare cores. They are Spall 2" thick, 9" diameter. Charge temp on the rollers was only 2 degrees above my maximum on road temps after 4 full boost runs.

Less lag, sharper throttle response for handling, better engine cooling, lighter weight, improved F-R weight distribution, don't need an oil cooler, and it will allow room for the 3.3 engine transplant shortly
It's no coincidence that the intercooler has two inlets

Andy

What NOS kit are you using? and did you need to remap - or was it just a striaght on job with its own fuel supply?

Cheers Andy..... thought about putting fans on my TMIC a while ago. There was a thread a few years back about a guy that used two PC case fans (fit exactly on a MY97-00 TMIC) that sparked it off..... he got significant gains using those iirc. Are you using any sort of control (intake temp, TPS etc) or is it juts ignition on fans on?

Ta.

Steve - Coldfusion nos kit (£399) just running it on the std map at the moment, pushbutton on the steering wheel. It is a wet kit so has its own fuel supply. Ideally the map wants retarded for the nos but I already had a retarded map installed for the rolling road run as it loads up the engine more than the road and I didn't want it detting. So really its my std map that needs advancing again, i think thats why the torque was well down on expectations.

Tony - It was a bit of a rush job so they are still just on a switch dangling on a wire by the gearstick, only running in slow speed (wired in series) at the moment. I will eventually connect them in 2 speed format with a road speed less than 20mph triggered low speed drive and a charge temp triggered high speed drive with water mist.

Steven - thanks

Andy

Are you going to give us some pics Andy?
Porsche have a weather proof fan system for the under front wing oil cooler matrix but i think the depth will be too much to squeeze under the scoop and the TMIC top face.

This forced cooling was a subject of a very long thread ages ago, and sounds like an interesting project to try.

Do you think there are good gains for a stock Sti v3 TMIC as the mass is low despite the cast ends so the fans will cool the TMIC quickly.

I had a hot TMIC yesterday as I just cant cool it waiting to take my run in the hills despite ice cubes in the water tank for the spray...

pacet make a 8" (10", 12", 14" etc) watertight motor system.
shifts something like 300 cfm and has a full mounting depth of 77mm which might just be enough if the (standard stiV in my case) i/c is tilted .
the problem I have seen is getting a brake duct made in the sixze of the i/c that reduces to 8.5" dia. (to accomodate the fan/mechanism) that funnels down to a 4" outlet to duct down the floorpan somewhere. (maybe 2 x 3" to get more exit flow)
have you thought of mapping in a co2 jet system rather than h20? (the theory being that co2 will fall naturally due to the temps)

fantastic result Andy , staring straight in the face of convention, I like it!!
