as above. will loosening the strut mount bolts move anything with regards to geometry/suspension?

No it won't change anything as long as you are just taking off the strut mounting nuts, placing the strut brace over the studs and then replacing the nuts. Nothing should move as the strut top mounts are shaped to sit within the hole in the chassis.

The strut brace will give a little more rigidity to the car's body shell, and by reducing the flexing of the shell, reduce dramatic dynamic geometry changes. Simply fitting a strut brace does not change the static geometry.
