We use Track -IT as well and found the audit work fine. In the end we gave up and every year run around all our PC's and monitor them.

We tried some software. It did a reasnoble job of identifying OS, MEM & disk - athough it did get confised with partitions & non partioned space.

It did fairly well at "branded" well known software like all the M$ suite but struggled on bespoke less well known stuff (and games).

In the end had to go round each machine anyway (and removed copious amounts of software - but supprisingly little **** )

in the office we use visualaudit pro from visionsoft, it works pretty well at identifying s/w but for hardware is brilliant. Version 12 will ID anything the motherboard bios tells it about. Pain to setup though, and if I remember was supprisingly cheap. An eval copy can be got on cd from their website.

Don't laugh but if you buy EPolicy Orcestrator (EPO) from McAfee you get that kind of auditing info included.

You install the EPO Agent on each p.c. and it reports back to the main AV Server everytime it updates.

AV and auditing.... can't be bad.
