I have been told that on my ECU if I have a brown sticker thats bad or a green sticker thats good. I have a brown one!!
I have a 99 V reg UK Scooby Turbo wagon and it judders when accelerating and I want to cure it.
Will changing the ECU cure this and if so where do i get one and how much?
Is there a company that can supply and fit one?

Whoever told you that got it the wrong way round... You've got the AE801 ECU. There was an earlier one which was AE800 (black), and the green one you referrred to is the AE802, which tends to appear in the MY00s. This site will explain it a bit more...

As to your acceleration judder, that will be down to something other than your ECU. Probably your MAF sensor. Need a bit more info though:-

Is the car modified?

Does it judder under part throttle, WOT (foot to floor), or both?

Does it do it in certain gears, or all?

Does it only do it at certain revs?

 

Agreed... Green is AE802 which it the later. The Brown AE801 is the earlier one which is slightly better. However, if you are playing with boost controllers the Green AE802 would be better as it runs a little richer.

 

If you don't plan on touching the boost, the AE800/801 ECUs are indeed better than the AE802; leaner top end fuelling, more top end ignition advance, more aggressive boost/duty cycle across the rev range. In other words, more power, more drivability. However, if you plan on using a manual boost controller, the boost maps don't really matter, as you're effectively making the boost even more aggressive. The richer fuelling and less ignition advance at the top end is much safer, making the possibility of det less likely. And that's not a bad thing...

 

The Judge

It does it all the time, even after a long run.
It does it worse when you start it up in the morning.
Slight throttle you can really notice it.
Its a bit worrying!!

Mass Air Flow. It sits in your induction tract, just after your airbox. It's basically a heated thin piece of metal, housed in a hard plastic unit. As air is sucked in by the engine/turbocharger, the air passes over this "hot film", cooling it down. The difference in temperature determines the mass of air that is on it's way to the compressor/inlet manifold. The ECU then uses this information to determine how much fuel to inject on the next combustion cycle.

From what you've posted, I'd put money on it being your MAF. There are a few tests you can do to prove, one way or the other. Have a look at this post...
