Question Should I top up the oil or not??

I think i need to top up my oil, but i dont know whats in there in the first place as it was last changed at the 10k service, the level is showing below the "L" mark so i think its worth topping up before the 20k service. Its currently done 18k.

Any ideas what i should be using??

Thanks for any advice,

Neil.

with what though.....there are so many different grades of the stuff im a bit confused, maybe ill take a trip to the dealer tomorrow and ask what they put in and top it up on the basis of that.

Ive seen what happens to scoobs with no oil so im anxious not to go the same way

I think the manual states a 1 litre difference between min and max on the dipstick. Be careful because on my MY03 STi if you put 300ml in when on the minimum mark it takes it above the maximum mark. Apparently these engines don't react kindly to overfilling (buggers the MAF sensor etc.).

Most people I know stick GTX in there, as it's cheap, it's about the right thickness and it lasts fairly well.

DO NOT USE MOBIL1 as it is too thin. (Unless you can find 10W50 or similar.)

Just phone the dealer, they will tell you. Or if you call in and ask they may top it up for free (they did mine).
