Question bonnet pins

Just bought some bonnet pins.I had a carbon bonnet put on and noticed at speed it flexes slightly.Has anyone out there fitted any??Is it a matter of drilling straight through the bonnet and through the slam plate once marked out in the right place???I know there are a few things to take into consideration,don't press on the bonnet to hard,I have all the tools for the job but don't want to sh*g it up.Cheers everyone

Where did you get the bonnet pins from? as i am thinking of getting some for the same reason.

I've done mine, started off by fixing the bolts to the slam panel by using the holes that have the rubber bump stops.
once those are in put a small blob of grease on top of each bolt and gently close the bonnet so the grease marks the area you need to drill.
my bonnet has a grp/fibreglass layer and the carbon layer above so i drilled out the bottom layer first and then remarked the top layer with the grease so it is in the proper position, then drill again.
try to get the bolts in as near a finished position as possible because having them too low/high will change the hole position, also if the bonnet is in two layers like mine you will need to make the bottom hole quite large for the pins to pass through.
another point to make is to try and make the holes on the surface as small as possible because if the pins are like mine you will have pop rivets very near to the hole making it quite weak.
oh another thing, put masking tape on the surface of the bonnet so you don't mark it or have any bits break out, make sure you check positions and marks lots of time before drilling and take your time, it'll be heart breaking if you fluff it up!
Finally it may be an idea to replace the pop rivets with small bolts and nuts as the pop rivet cango too tight and crack the bonnet and it's a pain it the **** trying to fit the third one in the pin channel

can post more pics please. I too have a CF Bonnet and am aware that I may/will require bonnet pins. I want to purchase a pukkah set of pins. Any ideas where from and how easy is it do?

Was thinkin of havin the job done by a professional as I PROBABLY **** it UP

decent pins can be had from demon tweeks

I got mine from [cough]halfords[cough] and don't recommend them, they are perfect functionally but are starting to tarnish, still you get what you pay for and serves me right for rushing it

Tools you will need are a drill (preferably cordless or at least variable speed) 4mm drill bit for pilot holing, 10mm drill bit or bigger for the actual hole and a countersink bit for nibelling away the hole to get it the right size/shape, masking tape, grease/paint/anything like that for marking, spanners, hacksaw for trimming down the bolts because i think from memory the sit above the headlights and a pop rivet gun or the small nuts and bolts and a drill bit of suitable size for these for fixing the plates to the bonnet.

I am a complete mechanical dunce but managed this ok, took me about 45mins for the pair but as i said you need to take your time. if you are not completly cofident them any local garage should be able to do it as you don't want to mess up a £400 bonnet but it really is a piece of pi$$ to do, i'll take some more pics later and post em up for ya

yep panel alignment they stop the bonnet dropping too low when it is closed, i was going to chop them up when i had finished and wrap them round the bolts but the bonnet lined up ok when closed anyway so i left it as it was

Have fitted these to my Impreza, get some black rubber pipe, the hole the same as the thread, and slide it over the pin. Cut this to length so you can just slide the pin in when the bonnet is closed. This is what the rally boys do and stops you over stressing the bonnet by supporting it from underneath as you push the pin in.

Be very careful where you buy bonnet pins from, I had two pairs, made by different companies. And both were ****e (one £10 the other £20 )

On both the locking pin was just chrome, and has promptly gone rusty The one pair I had was supposed to be alloy...the alloy bits were the main bolt and the plate, the rest was chrome plated again, and so has gone rusty
