Question Removing Outlook 'orphan' mail headers

Got a problem with outlook - can anyone help me solve it? Basically, I had some mail headers downloaded and marked for deletion in Outlook, but the account in question was deleted, so the headers can never be processed. This means that I have these mail headers sitting in the folder, but they'll never go away as the account doesn't exist any more.

Is there a way to get rid of them?

Are you using the spawn of satan "exchange 5.5" or is it purely a local PST issue?

Purely PST. It's a POP account that was deleted, being connected to via dial-up.

I'm still confused as to your problem.

Can you do a screen dump of it, so i can see what's wrong.

Can't here, 'cos the affected PST's at home.

Basically, I had a pop account, which was set up in outlook. There was a rule which said "only download headers for items > 150k", since most large items to this particular account were just spam. I mark them for deletion and next time I do a send/receive they get deleted without me having to download large emails over a dial-up connection.

So 3 headers were downloaded, but I didn't realise it. I deleted the pop account (and the mails) and removed the account from Outlook. Now I've got 3 headers sitting in the inbox, marked for deletion next time I do a send/receive. Except the account that the mails came through will never do a send-receive again, 'cos it's deleted. So how do I get rid of the headers?

I can't think of an eligant way to do it.

If your other resources are scuppered then there are more brutal methods of sorting it out.

Create a new PST and dump everything bar the 3 headers in question?

Change the default delivery location in Outlook and bin the old PST.

Bit of a PITA, there's about 10,000 emails in the PST, it'll take forever to move everything.

Use Archiving to move everything automatically, better than sitting dragging folders about.

Miles, have you seen how long it takes to archive 10,000 mails on a Crusoe 633Mhz?

You don't have to sit and watch the progress bar [1] silly!

[1] Not that there is one when archiving, but YKIM.
