What is the clear led on the Lambdalink for and what colour does it light up?

RTFI !!

It's a light sensor that changes the brightness of the rest of the LEDs for day or night time use. Therefore it doesn't light up.

err no if u mean the 1 above the rest of the led,s on the scale then it lights up white which is the brightest kind of light therefore hopefuly it gets your atention.
