Default Engine Oil Pressure problem ??

Well today I changed the oil on MY00 Turbo and had no problems until I tried to crank it over to build the pressure !

I have used Motul 300V Oil and the NipponParts Filer (prefileld with oil) and having done the job I did my usual thing of disconnecting the crank sensor and firing her over to build pressure. So after about 20 seconds the pressure light was still on ? took a quick break and then tried again for about another 20-30 seconds and still nothing the pressure light stayed on ?? By this time the battery was beginning to sound like it was under load so I decided to reconnect the crank sensor and fire her up. As soon as I did so she fired and the oil pressure light instantly went out !! Now I have done this before (last oil change) and whilst it took time the light did go out.....however not this time ? I allowed the car to idle for a few minutes and then took her for a drive and the car appears to be fine. However could this be a potential problem ?? Any thoughts most welcome ?

Sometimes they do this, worrying as it is, it mostly does not appear to be a problem. I suspect that your cranking speed is not generating enough energy to allow the pump to pressurise to the point that the light goes out.

Remember that the oil pressure switch is a very arbitrary piece of kit and the setting of the pressure sensor inside it is also extremely variable. Might be an idea to buy and fit another switch or better yet fit an Oil pressure gauge then there's no doubt.

You did everything right otherwise - what grade of oil is your Motul 300V?? it needs to be at least 10W / something. lower than 10W will cause probelms.

David - many thanks for your reply. I must admit the last time I did the oil change the similar thing happened, it seemed to take a long time for the pressure light to go out

I may very well look at getting a Pressure gauge could just go for oil temp gauge too

As for the oil I am using Motul 300V 15/50 (the same stuff I always use)

Hi, Nelson, mine's the same, when I first changed the oil on mine, I actually rang and spoke to David, who was as helpful as always, and put my mind at rest.... as he says, seems to be nothing to worry about, changed the oil 3 times since buying the car, can't get the pressure light to go out, even cranking for up to a minute....straight out when it's fired up. You can let your fingernails grow back now!

No worries, matey...btw, PD7s and Toyos now on, if I ever end up with a WR spoiler, and our cars are parked side by side, I might end up getting in the wrong one by mistake!

Nelson, I'd dearly like to put some pics up....it might happen this weekend if Claires dad remembers his digi camera when he visits. The scoob's just had a thorough " meguiring " and the skirts colourcoded, as well as the wheels, so now's the time. If you want to imagine how it looks, go outside , look at yours, and try to think about how it would look with the standard rear spoiler, a towbar, and no WR decals! . Hmmm, perhaps not....

The toyos were initially a cause for concern....until I realised that the tyre fitter had set the pressures to 38 psi all round ...a lot better now they're set to something more sensible. I reckon that the ride has suffered a little with the size increase, but that may just be the psychological effect kicking in....I'm kind of looking for change? I'll know better after a few more miles.
