Can anyone let me know if this is normal or if I've cocked up?

Car is an MY00 and I recently fitted a Green panel filter to the standard airbox. Now when I'm driving along with the window open (and only when I've got the window open), I can hear the dump valve sneezing when I change gear. Which is nice , but is it supposed to now be audible? Does a panel filter really make the difference between hearing the dv and not hearing the dv?

Also, for anyone who's fitted one of these, how many of the spacer lugs did you cut off?

I`ve put one in mine, didn`t cut any lugs off though, nor can I hear the dump valve anymore than before, but I haven`t especially tried to listen to it.

i had to cut all the 'half circle' spacer bits of mine to get it to fit, nice and snug now.

didn't notice any noise difference to the ITG i had in there, have you got a decat downpipe? coz that makes a fair bit of noise if it's twin dump/open neck.

can't for the life of me think if there was any difference with the std exhaust and the ITG, sorry. (oh, the joys of a std car before the modding bug bit)

 

Sideways, my Green dropped in, no probs, my stock DV sounded just the same as before. are you SURE you have fitted it all back correctly, it is easy to mis-locate the bottom edge of the air box. If the clips were a real sod to snap over then the box might be gaping open. Then you would hear the DV operating into the box more pronounced.

This is what I'm thinking. I've had a quick look and it looks secure, but I think I'll take it all apart and start again! Especially as my MAF has just packed up Hmm, wonder if the two are related...

 

Clean that MAF with a real soaking of brake/carb spray cleaner before you skip it!
Let it evaporate really well, then try again. Do not touch it with your greasy little fingers!
The air box is a sod, especially if everything is very cold and in flexible.

Cheers, I've already ordered a new MAF. Figured that it would go sooner or later as it's still on the original one at 65k miles!

When that arrives tomorrow, I'll take the filter out and start again. Might also check DV and IC hoses in case any have split or something.

It is a bit strange cos I would have thought that if there was an air leak around the air box lid, then I would get a load of induction roar like having a cone filter. But I don't. It is just the DV noise. Does sound quite nice though

 

I had the same panel filter and H&S downpipe/centre done on Saurday and I get the same wheezy noise.

Yeah, I took it apart and back together again and still the same, so figured sod it, it'll be grand!

 

i fitted a panel filter to mine and yes i heard the stock DV a bit more as well , so don't worry

 

I can also hear more "chatter" through my JR panel filter.

I fitted a JR panel filter 8 months ago and can also here the stock DV more so... nothing blown up yet so I wouldnt worry

 

I had this shortly after having a green panel filter fitted along with some other work, it was hose blown off. Check the hose at the top of the engine in front of the intercooler and behind the inlet manifold.
