Unhappy Where is the oil leaking from??

On my journey home yesterday i pulled up to my garage to notice smoke coming through the scoop/vents. Got the car into the garage to notice quite a bit of oil dripping drom underneath the car (i dont think it is gearbox as it is black). The dripping stops once the car has cooled down.

However my oil pressure gauge did not register any change in pressure. Any ideas what the problem is? I dont think the car (my99 turbo) should be driven to the garage due to the amount of oil that was leaking. Lucky for me i have just renewed for the 6year extender warranty so should be able to get a flat bed lorry to get me to the garage!

Any ideas on the problem most welcome. The car was only in about a month ago to get the oil sump re-seald under warranty - could it be related to this??

Alan.

Check your transmission oil level. I might be to high and overflow from the top when driving at highway speeds.

Camcover gasket or front crank seal are the most likely candidates. If you remove one of the plastic cambelt covers and there is oil in there then it is most likely the crank seal.

Sometimes the rocker cover bolt seals are a candidate too.

The engine oil and gearbox oil have a totally different smell to each other. The gearbox oil smell, IMO, is a harsh smell rather than the smoother smell of the engine oil.

only way of describing the smell of gearbox oil is Cats pee.

As andy and john say, crank seal, cam covers or cam cover bolt seals.

Given its coming through the vents, it would suggest the cam covers, and dropping onto the manifold, buring and then the smoke rising.
