Default Engine Oil Temperature

Done a search, couldn't find an answer so need to ask the question.

What is the normal operating engine oil temperature for an MY99 UK Turbo?

Cheers.

Depends on where you have the sender located and viscosity of oil. From experience of my previous 99MY, if it's sump mounted a typical figure for general driving is around 80-85c. If you get stuck in traffic on a warm day you could easily see 100-110c. Using the car hard will obviously raise the temp. but this is often balanced out by the increase in cooling airflow round the sump. If the sender is block mounted (over No3 cyl.) the temp. readings will tend to be higher, obviously as the oil is on it's journey around the galleries.

Cheers JohnD

My temp sender is fitted over No3 cyl, so the "high" temps I am seeing are okay.

Thanks.

Can it do any harm to the engine if the oil temperature is low, i.e. ~70?
It is sump mounted.
