Post Kenwood Dual Mags installed MY03!

Thought I'd add this to the what speaker fits discussion.

Kenwood 17cm dual mags fitted with 12mm MDF collars on top of a layer of Dynamat. They are 68 mm mounting depth I think. Tweeters fit nicely in the bracket where the standard tweeter lived. Crossover mounted with sticky pads on the inside of the door card.

Need to take the door cards off again to do a better job of muffling the cables with sponge (they rattle sometimes) and put a screw in the MDF to add a little more door/speaker clearance on the passenger side (seems to buzz at high volume).

£120 from CEL Direct. Big improvement over harsh standard kit, IMO. Hardest part is getting the door handle surround off!

have fun

Good stuff. I don't think that the dual mags are 68mm in mounting depth, as otherwise you wouldn't get 'em in, and part of the appeal of the dual mag setup is the shallow mounting depth.

Cheers,
Nick.

Having got the same in the front of my MY02, I agree with all you've said (apart from the mounting depth - haven't checked!). Personally, I rate these speakers well above the infinity 605cs for clarity and general tone.

I find the door handle surround comes best if you just take everything else off, and then pull it off using the door card - nice wide spread of force!

That's the method I used... and snapped off the lugs that hold it in place

Rears are still standard: it seems to be relatively little improvement for the cash judging by other posts. I haven't ruled it out though. Got to get my DAB aerial sorted first: need to find someone prepared to drill into the roof. My local ICE people are strangely reluctant!

Thrown the box away unfortunately, so can't confirm what it said about mounting depth. CEL website says 60mm, so could well be the dyslexia creeping ni. Must be a snug fit though.
