Cam sensor failure x6 - why would this occur?
I am now on my 6th Cam sensor for a MY02.
Dealer has blamed it on high revs and enthusiastic driving, but this surely can not be the cause. Besides I regularly get 290 miles per tank Optimax so my driving can't be that bad!!
Could there be other issues here?
As the warrenty period gradually declines - how much is a replacement usually?
Any help/advice appreciated.

Have all the cam sensors been faulty, or is it just bringing up a fault code ?
If it's bringing up a fault code then it could be a bad connection in the wireing loam, ie a pushed back terminal in a multi plug, a corroded connector etc.

high speeds and/or less clearance will result in higher voltage being produced from sensor, but this shouldn't be a problem in itself as ECU doesn't present a serious load to the sensor.
loom issues could well be at fault, or perhaps broken screen wires, or other ways if increasing interferance.
but they should last years no problem

Colin C : as far as I know the CEL comes on & I take the car down to the dealers they read the fault code and change the sensor - 10min job. I don't believe they test the 'faulty' part. This tends to solve the problem for 6 months before it re-appears. However the latest failure was after 2days. The dealer has ordered another sensor and can not suggest any other problems leading to the CEL.
Pavlov: I don't drive particularly aggressively or bounce of the rev limiter. That's one of the reasons I don't quite believe the dealer when he blames me. However I do find it tends to come on when I am accelerating hard/over-taking in 2nd/3rd gear. The CEL turns off after 4 starts then re-appears on hard acceleration again, but not on high rev motorway driving.
The car seem to run normally throughout!
Which areas of wiring/looms should I check??
