I have been speaking to breakers about a replacement engine for my 1994 MY95 STI RA which is unrepairable after the big end bolts failed!

I need confirmation that the RA and the STI RA had different engines, I know they both had a 5th injector but I'm sure the STI had stronger internals. Most breakers have told me that the engines are the same and I can get one for just over a grand, but if I want a STi engine it'll cost me just over 2 grand....I'm running well over 320bhp so I need strong internals but I don't really want to spend 5 grand on a new engine!

What I reall yneed to know is if I brought the 'RA' engine will it last!

There is no way anyone can know the true mileage of a second hand engine.
Also , breakers can sometimes give you 'bull' just to get you to buy it,and when problems happen its a case of "well its second hand, what do you expect?"

Give David at API a call and you might find yourself pleasantly surprised on the price of a replacement or professional rebuild.

I tried too, asked a question and never got a reply!!

I've dropped my engine off with David at API, he showed me round and it is a very impressive set up!
