Thoughts on 3"+ systems?
I'm just wondering after a conversation with someone this morning, which 3"+ system would be best for my car at unleashing a few extra horses?
I dont want anything seriously noisy, (I have a family, and the car is a daily driver) but my current 2.5" system might be a limiting factor with the car as it is..
He was not the first person to mention that a change up 3"+ would bring far better gains..

So the question is- which one to aim for?

Hi Brad,
I am in the same boat and think a HKS Hiper the way forward.. I just have a lack of funds at the moment, also would like a H&S 3inch downpipe with splitter.
I know of a secondhand Hiper for sale too, I really really want it but cannot justify the expense right now.
Although this one for sale does not have the bung I think it can be made bearable for family runs by adding the bung.
Drop me a line and I'll pass on the secondhand one details if you want, assuming I haven't bought it by then.. lol

Guys,
Quite a while ago I had a 3" system fitted to an MY99, but alas it didn't stay on very long - **** it was noisy!
The dealer got it for me, can't remember where exactly, but I remember the paperwork stating that it was for competition use only!
I drove one day from Belfast to Dublin(100ish miles) and back again, and that was it, went straight to dealers next day and asked them to take it off and refit the original.

simon- im in the same boat as you mate.. funds are tight currently..
its for the mid term future.. (before the next remap I think)
I found the hiper to be a bit tinny.. ??
The bugn is a damn good idea..
Shaun: dont worry mate- mines loudish already , but i need more oomph
The grin from extra horses etc will offset the premature deafness
there's loud (Zigen/Magnex/H&S, and theres LOUD (blitz/TSL firestorm etc..)

Unless you are pushing a fair bit over 300bhp a 2.5" system will no be a limiting factor (as long as its a de-cat)
But if you can put up with noise and you are going for big power in an ideal world you want zero back pressure after the turbo. So that means, the bigger, the straighter, the better

Gents, one of the best quality 3" FULL systems on the market has to be the APS one, it comes with a cast iron high flow turbo outlet, 3" cat bypass pipe and a very straight 3" system topped off with a subtle 4" tailpipe. Noise is ok, and I cruise to London & back weekly 430 miles round trip and my ears were in tact unlike other systems.
As it happens I have a second hand one for sale in the For Sale forum, cost new over £1000 and its up for half price £500 so its a bargain!
Why am I selling it, 3" is restrictive after 600HP
Need I say any more???
Grab yourself some quality!

if only I had the money conrad..
up to me eyes in a messy remortgage (probs with life companies etc..) otherwise I'd rip ya hand off (if I could get someone to buy my Scoobysport DP, TSL centre and Magnex Oval BB- hint hint)

A good 3" system is not restrictive at 600bhp.
Good D/Ps on 3" I have used include H+S and RCMS both on classics. Exhaust systems include Revolution and Scoobymania. 3" all the way. fairly straight and no tight turns.
The cast APS neck is very heavy, looks restrictive and has the look of something from a shipyard pre WW11.
