Right I have a STI 6 Speed box at the moment. Need to sort out diffs and prop shafts.

But after a lengthy conversation with David @ API Engines I will lose the DCCD.

Is there anyway of combining the diff in the 6 Speed (Uk box too) out of STI7?

Or should I just strengthen the standard 5 speed.

My syncromesh has gone on the 5 speed in 4th gear. Bugger

 

I would be keen to know if the dccd itself can be retrofitted into the transfer case of a jdm car.

Not sure how this could be done but wondering if anyone with practical experience knows if they are the same.

Am sure andy f was looking into this at some point as I recall someone had an issue with the wiring not having a stadnard route back through the transfer case to the controller.

 

Try emailling Rallispec.com - he's very helpfull and sells both 5 & 6 MZ boxes with DCCD. Personally, I think it's different

In my opinion there is no way that a DCCD from a TY7 type gearbox [5 speed] can be persuaded into a TY8 type gearbox [6 speed]. The casings are completely dis-similar and as such are incompatible. Whether or not the actual electric centre diff is the same is not yet known to me as I've not seen a DCCD box from a 6 speed yet.

On the TY7 series there is a flat cast alloy plate on the top of the box for the wiring harness to pass through. There is no provision on a regular 6 speed, either UK or JDM for any such plate to be fitted. Maybe the wiring passes through a regular case on a 6 speed without the need for the elaboration of the TY7 series? Time will tell.

So far I am still of the opinion that to achieve a DCCD 6 speed box you can only get or use that part. You will not be able to convert a 6 speed using parts from a 5 speed.

Unless someone knows better..........

Adam - My efforts involved fitting a Ph1 DCCD into a Ph2 box (both 5sp) In this case the Ph1 extension housing, complete with access hatch, is used on the Ph2 main case. The 6sp is a completely different casing.

These are the ratios for the box I have been quoted. Sounds like a JDM one to me.

STi ratios:
3.636 (1st),
2.375 (2nd),
1.761 (3rd),
1.346 (4th),
0.971 (5th),
0.756 (6th),
3.545 (Rev.),
3.900 (final drive).

 

Jon, Don't forget you'll need the computer and the wiring harness for the 6 speed. l doubt the kind folks at Fuji heavy use the same parts from the 5 speed onto the 6 speed.

Yes, we can supply this gearbox for $4950 brand new. This is US spec. which has slightly different ratios on 5th and 6th then the JDM models....but it does include the DCCD and front Suretrac LSD.

We can also supply a complete kit of parts necessary to install in place of the 5 speed box for $2500. THis includes STi short shift linkage, propshaft, STi gr.N mount, clutch & flywheel (standard), shifter boot, shift ****, flywheel cover, exhaust hanger, DCCD control unit, DCCD switch, DCCD wiring harness. Next question I think (Happy with the price I suppose as it IS brand new and has DCCD) is can I get the kit parts anycheaper than what they are quoting there? Just knocks the price sky high then. £4k for 6 Speeder.

As I already have Classic DCCD will I need the control unit etc or not? Is this DCCD-A or just standard DCCD?

 

More importantly, can you get them to get the sti forester with the same deal?

You can't retro fit the a part of the dccd, so I would be inclined to try to adapt the old controller.

I would also try to get a price without the clutch and flywheel, mount and exhaust hanger, and ask if they will do a discount for more than one and save on shipping.

I dont know if it poses a problem but the DCCD and A-DCCD both use EBD and ABS, is this a part of the control unit and if it is then i feel it could cause problems if it works in conjunction.
Adam, i saw one of your posts about the 6 speed JDM box, im not sure if anyone got back to you but its ratio'd to approx 170mph

from what andy wrote down in another thread which I have copied over to 22b.com,

7300 rpm gives almost 200mph in top.

 

Adam, not on a JDM box, a uk sti is ratio'd for around 183mph, at 8k in a JDM car its ratio'd for 170mph (considering i drive a JDM STi Spec C ) the mph per 1k in top is something like 21.2-21.9mph (between that, i did work it out).

Should point out that i took it from 2.5k@53mph (i took into consideration the fact my car runs around 5.5-6% out on the speedo) so divide 53 by 2.5 and multipy by 8 (ratio is 21.2 per 1k rpm).

Great good news is I dont need the DCCD control box.

It just has to be hardwired into the gearbox.

So starting to make progress now....
