As you know the early lancer design was sold off to proton as the persona, while watching some german rallying on the box last night i saw a proton using the shell of a lancer evo5. Does this mean that with the new lancer Evo7 in production that the old design has been sold on to proton again?

Don't think so.
MMC never sold the rights of the E4-E6 shell to anyone else, nor have they sold the rights of it's 4wd system to Proton (and they're not likely to let anyone else use their AYC design).
The only rallying Proton I've seen that's 4wd is a rebadged Gr.N E3. That is only a one-off for Proton's competition division and you can see the headlamps/tail-lamps are pure Lancer and not the Persona's. It's similar to the Carisma 'GT' that Burns drove years ago - that car isn't a Carisma, it's a Lancer E4.
