Hi,

Can you tell me what the following are/what they are used for:

RED = ?
BLUE = ?
GREEN = ?

Also do you fill both green areas up with water or just the one?

Thanks,
ChristianR

PS> Car is a Subaru Impreza WRX STI Version IV Type-R Coupe

Apologies if I'm being a bit dim, or looking at the wrong thing but.........the left hand green area appears to be the water header tank which hopefully (i say hopefully cos I'm sure I've done it before) can be filled with water. I cant quite see the right hand side green area, and the red I dont have on my car (MY93) but at a rough guess it looks like some kind of air feed. Prepared to be shot down in flames though.

Exclamation

The circle on the bottom left of the first photo, is part of the air intake system. It's meant to feed air into the resonator (which is in the wing) and out again to the air box (which has now been removed)

Middle green one, is indeed the header tank. (Coolant and/or water)

The blue one in the second photo is either (a) the resonator or (b) a cold air feed pipe, ducting air from below the driver side front indicator.

I can't make out the other green circle.

Could be wrong!

so the red feeds air into the wing, and the blue thing puts that air into the air-filter?

So can I modify that to make it better for my current racing suction kit?

Thumbs up

The green circle on the right of the first pic is roughly where the Radiator\Coolant top up pipe is.

Cool

Blue ring in second picture is where the resonator mounted in the wing would connect to the standard airbox if the car didn't have a cone filter fitted. The resonaror does nothing in the current arrangement, except add excess weight.

Handy hint on header tank: never open the cap unless the engine is cold (unless you really know what your doing) the warning on the cap is not a joke.

The thing circled in red (as mentioned before) is the air feed for the resonator box, it is no longer used as you have an induction kit, however the sensor sticking out the side of it is the air feed temperature sensor and you want to put that somewhere where it might give the ecu some idea of the intake temperature

So yes take off the air feed and remove the resonator but remember to put the sensors somewhere useful.

The two fillers you are pointing out are for coolant, basically the one at the front is to check the level (apparently at each fuel stop (!)) and you should top up there if it is visibly low... If there is nothing there or you want to change the coolant use the other one with a radiator cap... (but only when cool )

If you want me to scan the relevant pages in the Owners Handbook, then I'll put them up for all to see

OK, couple of scans for you.

They might be a bit big in the browser (I use IE6 and that resizes for you)

Just drag the images out of the browser into a folder (or onto the desktop) and view them in the image viewer of your choice... or just use save as image...

Cheers...

ChristianR,

Not what you want to hear m8, but to repeat what Mark A mentions: the IC ain't gonna be much use if air can't get through it cleanly...all those bent fins...

Time for an upgrade?
