Cool

Hi Dave,

Top piece of kit. I noticed quite a difference in power when I got mine fitted.
I had only the exhaust done, then the APS kit fitted and there was a very noticeable difference in power. Top workmanship and fits in very steady without having to drill anything. The kit comes with everything needed to fit it.

I cannot compare it to other setups coz I have not been in a scoob with a different induction kit yet, apart from stock. It sits in the wing, away from the hot engine bay drawing in cold air always. People will argue that the kits that sit in the engine bay are just as good, or better, coz when you are moving, there is a greater volume of air coming in to the engine bay even though it's warmer.

Personally, I like the cold air idea.

Cheers,

Wrexy

Stelios,

I think APS saw you coming m8. I'm sure they'll only do the induction kit if someone wants it. I read the e mail they sent you and you are correct. They said they only do it as a package. Bollocks I say!!!!!

Has anyone else bought, only an induction kit from them?

Hi all
As far as I know K&N has a new induction kit same as APS (inside the wing) and uses the same air filter (both K&N).
New Age Motorsport (http://www.newagemotorsport.com/) sells the APS induction kit as part in a higher price (169GBP) than APS themselves.
Jim

PS:I haven't seen yet photos from the new K&N but I am interesting too Stelios for the kit, don't forget me in the group buy !

Phoned K&N research and development dept today to ask about the new 'cold air' kit. They're working a kit for the new Impreza turbo but there's none as yet for the pre 01 model - try back in 6 months he said !

Another alternative is using a Green Filter called the "Twister" which is also cotton but is cased.

Green also sell custom ducting which connects to the inlet of filter which *JUST* fits through the hole into the wing (94WRX).

I'm not using the AFM (Link ECU) so you may need a flange to connect it up. They do a kit for the various model Imprezas so they should be able to sort you out.

Pipercross do their "Viper" filter which is cased in Carbon Fibre but costs £200+

Jim,

Unfortunately to get APS products over here, we have to pay for shipping (very expensive), duty (very expensive) and VAT (guess what? ) - once you add these to the prices, you'll find we are actually cheaper.

I've got an APS induction kit bought from NAM ... very happy with it, sounds lovely and notable improvement in pick up ... also then makes the dump valve slightly more audible... nice

Graham

PS took me about 4 hours to fit though!!

YY,

That is the one we are talking about. They did send an email to Stelios, saying that they only do it as a package. I read it. Don't know why they sais that. Perhaps they wanted to sell a FMIC to him also, which incidently, does not fit left hand drive cars, I have been told.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Question

Did you eventually fit the APS?

Who did you get it from eventually.

I am trying to get one from New Age Motorsport, but they are a little difficult to contact directly (i.e. phone) Am waiting replies on email, but it's rare that I trust my credit card to email (!)

Just ordered mine from CraigH at NAM (who very nicely rang me back) Top bloke, seems to know his stuff - and more importantly other stuff as well

Should be here soon, so I'll fit it hopefully before end of week (knuckle skin permitting )

This is the response I got from APS, when asking about putting the kit on a 99MY WRX...

Hello Steve,

Thank you for your response.

Craig Hardman from New Age Motorsports will be able to assist you with
the components you require. A word of caution however. Our HFA should
not be used with the standard ECU. It is designed for very high flow
rates and can result in lean air fuel ratios at part throttle. I suggest
looking at good aftermarket ECU enhancement or perhaps consider one of
our complete packages.

Regards
George Couyant

Stephen
i think the key words here are:"consider one of our complete packages" which btw includes the Unichip pre-programmed according to the package.
Now, how can a free flow induction kit *alone* without the car having any other mods run lean ie increase the volumetric efficiency so much that the fuelling becomes lean is something i dont believe.

FrankM thx m8!

Intersting mail from APS!!!

Have not know about the fact leaning out on part throttle!!

BTW: Means this that if I remove the resonator box and fit a High Flow Air Filter in the standard box that I will be closer to a lean mixture as well?
This would give me an answer to my engine damage which I had 2000km after removing Reso-box???

@Stelios: Kit is on the way to you since Saturday morning... ;-)

Done. 1 Cold Air Induction kit on it way to "Surrey Performance" for fitting Monday (with other things)

Thanks also to Andy T for calling me to ensure I was aware of the need to re-check my fueling after fitting. Where would some of us be without this BBS

Hi Charlie,

I know it's difficult to wait, but I really recommend getting a dyno run before and after your mod. They can check you are fuelling ok at the same time.

Cheers

Steve
