Hey chaps.

I think I have a wheel bearing going south.

A deep drone that is speed related coming from sounds like the N/S/R. Sound stops/starts when weaving from left to right.

My question is how simple is it to change??

pretty easy though you will need a press and a bearing puller.

Probably the CV joint or Boot if only when cornering. Run it round a roundabout and see if it nocks. Also check to see if the rubber boot is split. You might be able to repack with grease and seal.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the info.

I checked the rear CV boots etc. last nite, no worries there.

The old shake the wheel technique didn't show up any signs of bearing wear, but its definetely there.

I expect its like Steve said, my track days this year have cooked the grease, but I thought it would of been the front bearing not rear As far more heat from brakes there.

I'll do it at the weekend as no chance to get to my dealers before the Ring trip. And I don't won't a failure there, huh

Scoobyboy, I've gotta a press at work, so no worries

Get the bearing changed. It's not expensive & it's not worth the risk.

I know of one car that made a slight scraping noise from the front nearside hub when the car was cornered at low speed. This was checked by dealer and given the OK. Bearing disintegrated during trackday at Donnington whilst exiting the righthander onto the long straight that goes under the bridge. Speed just over a ton - Not much fun!

Bearings tend to loose grease in cars used on trackdays as heat from the brake disks is dissipated through the hub & bearing. (Melts the grease).
