Can anyone help?

I have noticed that the engine bay on my MY99 is developing an alarming amount of rust - mainly on the non-critical bits and the bolts etc...

The car is less than two years old. I had a 30K mile service last week and mentioned it to them - not much they could do without IM's involvement.

Therefore, I am about to write to them, but wanted to see if anyone out there has had similar experiences or any advice on how to approach IM?

Cheers
Peter

Thumbs down

Peter, to be honest my car is around six months old and I have noticed there are a number of bolts that are starting to rust, or at least start to dis-colour.

Would this have something to do with the fact that a large percentage of the engine is Aluminum and the bolts are steel ??

Remember something about this from my School days, something about two dis-similar metals having a corrosive effect on one type but not the other ??? or something like that...

When my wife returns from shopping in my car, I'll have a look and take a photo.

Cheers Phill

At first I wasn't too concerned - but the dealer indicated that it is pretty bad.

I will aslo get a photo of it and post on here tomorrow - to show the full extent and compare with yours.

Cheers

I found this on mine when bought - about 9 months ago. Bought a tin of Turtle Wax rust master and put it on. Works a treat, turns the steel black as it cures and stops any further rusting.
