Question Clicking clutch pedal

The clutch pedal on my MY00 recently started to click just as I began to depress it. At the recent service, Subaru looked at this and "tightened up the linkage". This seemed to cure it for about a week, when it returned. Took the car back and they tightened the linkage a bit more, but said they couldn't go any further as otherwise the clutch release bearing would be permanently pressed against the clutch. Also said the click was caused by the return spring "going over-centre".

Anyway, the fault was again cured for about a week but has now returned.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you cure it?
I always thought a hyrdraulic clutch was self adjusting, so what has Subaru been adjusting?

BTW the car has only done 28k miles and the clutch bite point is still well below the top of the pedal travel, so assume the clutch is not badly worn.

Got the same problem mate. MY 99. Interested what kind of replies you get mate but don't have any answers!! Sorry!!

My clutch is on its way out, don't know if this would be a contributing factor.

mine does this sometimes.
i think its to do with the pin that holds the master cyclinder push rod that goes through the pedal.

as you push , it wears this pin, so it slops about a bit causing it to click as you put your foot on it.

i was thinking or replacing the pin, or maybe trying a few washers around there to see if that helps.

Mine (MY00) does it also. It only seems to do it for a day or two, then disappears for a month or two, then comes back; constant cycle since I've owned the car (July 2003). Annoying though it is, I've just learned to live with it. But then it is far more infrequent than what you lot are describing...

I had this on my Sport (clicking) it is a little plastic bush in the clutch pedal which attaches the spring to (not sure) . I managed to do this and I'm rubbish at maintinance, it will wear and the spring will pop of and the pedal goes all floppy loads of play.

Mine did it too, I fixed it first by putting packing washers either side of the pin to take out the sideways play. After a few months it occasionally did it again. The final cure was to remove the ASSISTOR spring, this is the large spring that aids the pedal and makes it very easy to press. I completely removed this mechanism. The pedal became heavier (and a better feel) and has completely cured the problem, for over 1 year now! I never even notice the heavier pedal feel any more.
