There does not seem to be much on here!
I keep on reading about mechanical failures,
big end , clutches etc. Both of my wrxs have been reliable, but then again I did not do side step starts with them etc,I think I drive my car quite hard, but now I am beginning to wonder. We have an Exmoor run in a couple of weeks, I was keen to go but shall I? would i be considered to be too slow? Perhaps I am a girly! but the Sti is still running! There is a phrase in motorsport " To win a race you first have to finish"
I will wait for all the stinging replies!!
Keith.

Chu, sorry to hear about your big end, perhaps we could meet up sometime?

Keith,

Thats a good philosiphy Gotta admit m8 it`s new 2 me but yeah i can c where u r commin from. There r various views on mech sympathy though an I`ve got 2 admit that IMHO these motas should be driven like u stole them and built accordingly to a point and if anything breaks then replace it with a better (uprated) 1 coz it wasn`t up2 the job in the 1st place

Note no sting attached

Pete

Its a matter of wanting different things from our cars, since we can't run from the laws of nature. If you wanna drive hard, expect things to be worn quicker. Formular 1 is an excellent example, the cars are prob 3 times as fast as regular scoobys in terms of track lap times, but they're built to last race distance, not 200000miles.

Aluminium that gets repeated heated to 1000deg C breaks before one that is heating to only 750deg. A gearbox that is launched hard 5 times a week will break before one that is launched 5 times a year.

Taken to the extreme, just leave the brand new car in the climate controlled showroom. In 10yrs, it'll still be "near new"! But then, whats the point?

Moral: In everything there's a balance. Each of us has to determine our own...(guess everyone here knows this already.)

The Exmoor run can be as fast or slow as you like , not everyone likes to drive as mad as Bob , SteveB or Ian , just drive at a pace which suits you .
Hope to see you there Dave

Indeed. On all the meets I've been to through the Midlands & North, the theme is very much drive at a pace you are happy with. If people wish to drive quicker than you, then let them past and enjoy the drive and scenary.

If you want to stop for a break and take some photo's, no problem.

It's not a race and it's not competative.

Keith,

On the Exmoor run, if you drive at your own pace as Big Bear suggests, bring a compass and a bloody good map Although being from Devon, you probably know all the short cuts!

If you want company travelling at your own pace, I'll tag along. I was sick of always being the last one to overtake on the last Exmoor run as I was sure my Reg number was being noted after all the other non standard exhausts blasted past a few locals. Everybody has their limit for comfort and the last thing you should do is go beyond that to stay with the pack. I ended up getting lost despite the guys stopping on the side of the road at least once for me.

So, take it easy and more than likely, I'll be way behind you in my "Reliant Robin"

Cheers

Jerome
