Engine noise, Piston Slap or Crankshaft

Whats this Engine noise, Piston Slap or Crankshaft?
When engine starts from cold I get a rattle for 2 to 3 secs. No noise when under load or on the overrun.But when cruising on the motorway with just enough throttle to hold speed, noise comes back.
Been advised its big ends. but thought it might be piston slap, any advice?

Noises
Tell us more about the car, age, mileage, UK or Jap import as much as you think relevant. It might be something simple like hydraulic tappet noise, Then again it could be more serious. Where are you in the country? It might be better to get to a specialist who can offer a proper opinion after listening to it.It's difficult to diagnose noises on Scoobynet, one persons catastrophic noise is another persons 'nothing to worry about'.
Help us all with the first para then we can respond better.
