I thought the V and VI both had the same engine - the differences are cosmetic (all right Subaru, aerodynamic ), and that the P1 has a (slightly) modified version of that engine.

MY understanding is that the P1 has a type five engine with prodrive intercooler and ECU.

Don't you mean an intercooler with a prodrive sticker

I think the general consensus is that the P1 and STI V were seperated at birth with no engine differences at all. P1s are fitted with 2 broquet packs in the fuel tank - available from broquet for reasonable money. The intercooler, ecu etc are to my knowledge, the same. It does however have the gear ratios from the 4door STI rather than the 2door type r.

Its a Phase 2 engine and its same as the STi version 5 (which is same as the version 6)

Intercooler is standard STi phase 2

Eric is spot on re gearing etc.

Can the P1 run on 95 RON fuel then? Surely it's mapped differently to the STI engine?

Andy
If you run the P1 on 95 octane It will pink above 4,000 rpm and damage the engine

Sorry I thought the whole point was you could run a P1 on 95 fuel ~ however it would have lower engine output than running on SUL (or am I getting confused with the UK300 PPP here ?)

Saying that isn't SUL the prefered fuel of P1's.

BS.

Surely it would be damn stupid to buy a P1 then run it on normal unleaded. If you shell out for the car you should accept the running costs. I think most P1 owners on here would only use super.

Eric says he thinks the ecu is the same, but I am sure people have said that prodrive tweaked it. Bob have you any idea on this one, as I wouldn't run an sti 5 on 97 alone without at least a link.

Let's not forget that SUL is hard to come by in some parts of the country. Running on 95 RON might be less than ideal, but I wouldn't expect it to damage my (expensive, UK spec) car

Any P1 owners care to elaborate? Seems like a simple enough question.

Andy.
