blowing exhaust - OMG HOW MUCH!!
My exhaust has started blowing from the middle section near the cat/centre silencer. I have been round a few tyre & exhaust places & no-one can get parts for it (MY00 UK turbo). So I figured i'd ring a subaru dealer - who have just informed me it will be £342.58 for a new centre section!!! That seems rediculously expensive to me - has anyone else had this replaced?
So I was thinking of getting a stainless centre section inluding decat. So my question is, which would people recommend? TSL or Scoobyworld, as both seem to be a similar price.
I reckon I will be able to get a section from either if these & get a local exhaust centre to fit it for about half the cost of a genuine mild steel item!

Take a visit to TSL,( two hours from you), and get them to fit it. Make an appointment, and they'll do it in an hour.
DON'T Take your credit cards or a cheque book, or you'll spend, spend, spend!!!

I cant replace a gasket coz It's actually cracked
I think i'll give TSL a ring tomorrow. It might be worth driving down there, either that or get it delivered here & ask a local firm to fit it. I'll have to work out which will be cheapest.

What's actually blowing, have you looked ? the O.E. part IS stainless, albeit 409 (lowest grade), and we've not seen one fail, Micks is 7 years old now, and although it has plenty of surface rust, it is nowhere near failing. I would check carefully before going out and spending loads of money, maybe it's just the seal.
Yup
Chaddy is right. We looked for durability interest to compare his system and mine. His is 2000 MY and mine is 97MY. We thought my rear box must have gone as it sounds a bit louder. Same rust pattern around the rear box skins - mine was more extensive. BUT strangely no internal damage or peforation of the inner skin, let alone any of the pipework!
We do tend to find that the weld joints tend to go before the pipes or flanges, but I would be very surprised if there was actually anything seriously wrong with yours.
Do you do a lot of short stop / start type trips and rarely get up to full operating temp? These are the worst conditions for the exhaust. Even then, it is the rear boxes that tend to suffer long before the front pipes.
May be some impact damage on the underside has started a crack somewhere?
Let us know if/ when you find where the fault is occuring.
Cheers
