Rolling Road Performance

Question

I was just wondering if anyone knew if rolling road performance testing is a) accurate due to lack of wind to the intercooler and b) bad for no 3 due to lack of wind to the intercooler?

Pete,

I've only been to two rolling roads, so I can only comment on them.

Both Power Engineering and PowerStation have high power fans pointed at the car during the run.

Powerstation have been known to spray water on to the intercooler as well.

I would be very wary if any rolling road didn't use a high power fan during a run.

Also the temperatures will run higher on the rolling road, than say doing similar things on the 'real' road!

Yeah I was at powerstation the other day watching a scoob being tested, but the fan was only going to the radiator not through the scoop so the intercooler couldn't have been getting what it was used to? Or am I mistaken?

PowerStation always do their runs with the bonnet up and a fan directly above the intercooler. They sray water onto the intercooler also.Obviously if the Impreza you saw run had a FMIC the top fan and bonnet open would not be required.

ahh well they didn't do that when I saw it, but it was just a standard uk model, good to know they do though!

Star Performance in Glenrothes have two fans the new one I think 80mph wind directed at the radiator and the old one ?40mph which they can duct to the intercooler during the run (bonnet up)
Seems to work well

When the powerstation guys mapped my unichip on there rolling road, they used two fans, front and ontop, as well as spraying water. Also let the car cool down when they thought it was getting too hot, before they continued mapping. No complaints.
