Occasionally when I've been doing a lot of stop/start driving I get a 1 second whirring noise (difficult to describe) when pulling away in first which seems to be coming from the clutch.

Has anyone else had this and should I be worried?? Car is MY00 12000 miles.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but mine sometimes makes a quiet whirring noise after a journey. Haven't tried pressing the clutch to see if it goes away (yet). Sometimes it stops and starts like a fan on a thermostat, but last night after a 4000rpm clutch dump I noticed a similar noise which was pretty constant at idle. Haven't got a clue what causes it, anyone?

Cool

I had this a lot (MY 00 WRX RA) over the colder months, but now you mention it i've not noticed it at all lately.
I've done 4000 miles since i've had the car so i don't suspect it's going to be terminal too soon!
