I am soon to be moving on from my Sport, to a low milage (9K) well looked after MY98 Turbo. From what I gather, there is a known piton slap problem on this particular year which appears between 10-20K(?). As the car hasn’t reached that milage and is no longer in warranty, I was wondering how common the problem is ?? Does it depend on how hard the car has been driven ?

Any info would be appreciated.

Steve

Just do a search - you will find an awful lot of references ( as I did ! ). Not sure if I have got it or not yet, but I am in warranty and going to extend anyway just in case.

Extended warranty does not cover piston slap as I am finding out (45K miles). It covers a failure (breakage) of certain specific parts, and piston slap is not considered an engine threatening "feature".
The extended warranty also has many pages of what is not covered.
Read the warrant carefully before spending £580.
Stan.
