Can someone please tell me if there is an easy way of changing the spark plugs on my 93 wrx as it looks like a complete pain in the ****.Also what tools will i need as the plugs seem to be in an almost impossible to get to place.Also choice of plugs?? im on a tight budget at the mo so the cheapest ones please

there is no easy way to change them you have to remove the washer bottle on the n/s and both parts of the air box on the o/s there is also a special tool about 5" long with a magnet to hold them in place as you remove them.

 

Dal, scoobyboy is right you need a good socket set with the right size extension bar, but i did'nt remove the washer bottle i just removed the battery and the air box.
There has been talk before on this board that you can change them from under the car, but i have'nt tried this.
As for the plug's i got ngk from power engineering for £45.00

You don't need a special tool to remove them . Once you have the plug loosened push the plug lead back onto the plug and use it to lift the plug out . I was told this by a guy who services for prodrive on the WRC .

 

No Special tools required just some patience a good set of different length extension bars for the socket......and remove the Airbox,Battery and washer bottle it will save you time in the long run!!!!!
Uprated NGK plug are best!!

you can do it with out the special tool but as i work in a dealership it saves messing around with different length bars and plug sockets plus you can remove and undo with one tool

 

A 3" extension is all you need. Once the plugs are out of the thread tilt the extension down a little and plugs drop into the socket and lift straight out. Easy, if not time consuming.
I had to remove airbox and washer bottle.

Halfords (UK) do 10mm? spark plug remover with rubber retainer to catch plug as you undo it. As it is about 3" long you only need the wrench to do job.
I found that only the washer bottle had to be moved out of the way.

Don't know how different it is but i've just changed mine on a 95 UK Turbo about 10 minutes ago. Took me about 1 1/2 hours as i'm a newby to engine tinkering but it saved me £50/60 on labour charges.

I used the spark plug remover from Halfords that Butty's talking about. It came with a whole 50 piece set for £9.99 (bargain). As for the removal I had to take out the washer bottle. I didn't completely remove it but unscrewed it and rested it on top of the engine. For the other side I just removed the top part of the filter box enabling me to reach.

Everyone says the NGK's are the best but i've just got some Champion Eon's (Platinum tip with double copper core) and they're about a tenner cheaper.
