I could do with some advice

My UK94 has damaged its turbo compressor and I need it rebuilding. However I have the choice of having a hybrid TD04 or a hybrid TD05 being built.

I run 1.3bar with a vent to atmos BoV. What spec should I get it built to ?

360 degree bearings, clipped intake and larger compressor ????

What does anyone think ?

Cheers

Mark

Edited for smelling pistakes

It depends on what you want. 3600 degree bearing should be a good investment anyway.

For more boost at high rpm, go for the bigger one, for more low-rpm torque and less turbo lag, go for the smaller one. If you mean cut back blades, then this will give less restrictions to the exhaust but at 1.3 bar that's not a problem anyway I think so that's a waste of money.

Hope it helps!

Mark, I can't believe you're still on the original turbo!

Wouldn't you be better trying to pick up a second hand VF22/23 which will give you a cooler charge and therefore more power for any given boost.

AndrewC,

Yeah not bad for me...almost 10 months out of a unit

VF22 or a VF23 ~ yeah did wonder about one of those. I'll ask about one.

Cheers

TD05 flows virtually as much air as the VF22, is good for 1.6 bar and, being sleeve bearing, is tougher as well, bit more lag (maybe) although I didn't find that in my Wagon. To fit the later VF range you would need to have made an adapter elbow, or change the inlet manifolding/induction/fuel rails etc to the later MY97/98 type.

Ran mine for in excess of 50,000 miles at 1.4 bar and its still going strong.
