Oil temp light
Anyone got an idea about a simple oil temp light. In maplins they sell L.E.D that can change from red to green. Would it be possible to have a temp switch fitted so that until the correct temp is reached the L.E.D will be red. Turning to green when temp reached. This means I would not have to fit gauge. Any clues much needed How to etc??
I`m sure this would be a reletively simple electronics project, but if I were you I would go straight for a temp. gauge. It would be VERY unusual for the oil to get too hot, the main benefit is to know when the oil has reached a sensible working temp. before using boost. Oil temp. is the real indication of engine temp. in this respect.
Typical normal running oil temp. is around 80/90*C

Whatever happens you will still need a sender unit or probe in the sump to pick up the oil temp. this could then be converted into a signal for the L.E.D`s The circuit would, I guess, be similar to one which senses light levels to switch on your lights. I shall talk to the electronics bods at the college where I teach (???)

Top man. Lookforward to your reply
Is the sender just an ground switch?? when it comes on it forms a ground so a circuit is complete for a light to work. I think I will need to find out if 1 x 12v supply gives red. Then another 12v makes it go green.Or if it one or the other( CHRIST I AM GETTING CONFUSED!!)Maplins cat page 184. Any clues on sender...
