sounds like the mixture's going lean (this is only a guess!)
Is the MAF sensor contaminated?
Did you put an oiled-type air filter in?

someone else is bound to have heard of this one.....as I'm just guessing

Hi, my HKS RACING SUCTION KIT came down today, and it was installed in my WRX STI VERSION IV TYPE R COUPE, but I am having a problem with it, and I am not sure if it is meant to do it or not, as it wasn't like this before.

Basically, when I put my foot down, the car sort of slows down a bit, and it seems like it is sucking in loads of air, and then the power suddenly kicks in, so say if I put my foot to the floor, the car suddenly slows a bit, so you move forward, and then the turbo kicks in (after some air has been sucked in) and you shoot back in your seat. Is this normal? as it never used to be like this.

I had exactly the same problem on my Vrsion 6 Type-R when fitted a SARD induction kit.
The problem is that in low revs the mixture goes very lean because the fuel volume is not enough for that extra vlomue of air gained by the new filter.
To solve the problem I fitted an APEXi S-AFC which helped to increase fueling and correct the air/fuel map.

Christian,

I think Adonis is talking about the HKS AFR (Air Fuel Regulator). You can read more about it here:

ahh I see - I might be getting a LINK ECU upgrade later on though, so if I was going to go for a link ecu now, is it still worth me getting one of those HKS Air-Fuel Ratio Regulator as well?

If you are getting the Link ECU, I think the HKS AFR will be become redundant. But I think your best bet is to call BR Developments and get the definitive answer!

Cheers

No I'am not talking about the HKS AFR, I'm talking about the APEXi SUPER AIR FLOW CONVERTER which actually does the same thing with the HKS AFR but is far more advanced and it is loaded with many options, it also looks great. Have a look at

Christian,

Much has been talked about the various ECU's. Do a search on Motec, Link and UniChip and you will see lots of threads!!!
