Whilst driving home from work (in my 92 Legacy turbo) I noticed that when the revs hit around 3000-3500rpm under hard acceleration they would whizz round to about 5000 quicker than normal, but without hardly any power increase? This does not happen every time but it is a worry!

I have recently had the cambelt changed, could this be anything to do with the problem?

Any ideas/solutions on the matter would be gratefully received.

Every Legacy Turbo I've ever seen for sale has 'new clutch' or 'new clutch and flywheel' - suspect this could be your problem.

I suspect the clutch is slipping, I presume you mean that the revs go up to 5K quickly but without a corresponding increase in speed?

 

I agree with Kevin and Jim. To see if the clutch is slipping put the car into top gear and at very low speed (25 mph or so) put the pedal to the metal.... If the revs rise dramatically and your not going anywhere then the clutch is stuffed. Otherwise...I have no idea.
