I have come to the conslusion its about time the clutch was gone on my car it seems to rev lots when pulling away definate clutch slipping and seems to over rev if i accelerate to hard in high gears.

What are your opions on replacement clutches? i have been quoted 500+ for new clutch and fitting is this really that expensive apart i thought clutches where about 100 plus depending on the quality i want a good one but dont want to spend an arm and a leg unless its really worth the extra money

any suggestions greatly appreciated i am in essex any idea of good clutch fitting places around??

I think there is quite a bit on clutch prices re fitting.

£500+ is good from a dealer. They charge £350 for the clutch and the rest is labour. I know many dealers in the London area that charge much more than that (try doubling it)

Clutches can be sourced from people like:
Mark @ Lateral Performance: 02084 205444
Andy @ Grade A 01663 744114
Or a friendly local SUbaru dealer

many clutches available at many different prices.

I know several garages that will fit cluctches for under the £200 mark (incl of vat) though you may need a skimmed/new flywheel & spigot bearing.

So if ordering a clutch make sure you get the plate, cover, thrust bearing........

If your car is standard or mildly modified, the best value replacement available in the UK right now is the Borg & Beck OE spec unit available from these people for just over £100 all-in. This is a complete replacement - including the cover plate and release bearing, seems to cope with at least 300lb/ft without any problem at all, and for the price just can't be beat.

If you're up to fitting yourself, or have a friendly local Subaru specialist who'd be able to do it, this is the most cost-effective option by a margin.

Recently had exactly the same problems with Clutch so went up to TSL in Notts and had an AP Organic Clutch fitted ( handle 45% more torque than OE clutch ).......Very pleased with it after only a month of driving and best bit is the lightened flywheel . Not especially cheap ( all in about £800 ) but know those guys do a good job and peace of mind is important to me.

Try Rally Colin if you want someone to fit it. Its only about a hundred and a bit last time I spoke to him about it. He's somewhere in Reading area and has worked on loads of Subarus. His garage is a little bit hard to find so you'll have to email him about it.
